How it Works
The basics of the SodaStream machine are that carbonated gas is forced into normal water which will then cause the water to become fizzy or carbonated. A flavoured syrup can then be added to the fizzy water to create the perfect beverage. During the 1970’s and 1980’s SodaStreams were in their prime and top selling syrup flavours included famous brands such as Tizer, Fanta and Irn –Bru.
History of the SodaStream
The sodastream first came to market in 1903 by the inventor Guy Gilbey. Originally the SodaStream product was purely to create fizzy water; fast forward a few years and the now well-known flavoured syrup versions were introduced. However, it wasn’t until the late seventies or early eighties that the SodaStream really took off; with a range of flavours on offer it was a true drinks phenomenon.
The Benefits of the SodaStream
In recent years the importance of being environmentally friendly has vastly increased. We are now all encouraged to separate our cardboard, glass and plastic from our normal day to day waste and are encouraged to ‘Think Green’ be that via TV adverts, in the supermarkets, at work or just in our day to day lives. The importance of being environmentally friendly is one of the main reasons that our vibrant range of SodaStream machines is making such a fantastic comeback. Here at Dunelm Mill we are exceptionally proud of our SodaStream machines as they eradicate the need for aluminium drinks cans or plastic pop bottles, since all of our SodaStream machines come with a reusable bottle that can last up to 3 years. In fact it is believed that for every one bottle of SodaStream concentrate sold we are replacing almost 10 plastic bottles plus any packaging that normally accompanies these products. The average lifespan of a SodaStream machine is estimated to be around 10 years; within this time it is thought that the machine could replace 4330 bottles per household in the UK. (Alex Sexton (2010) A Review of the Environmental Impact of Soft drinks Packaging Lancaster University Press).
Retro chic is back! With a present sixties phenomenon sweeping the nation with vintage clothes, jewellery and even food making a resounding comeback it’s time for the SodaStream maker to bask in some of this retro glory. The SodaStream maker has the potential to whisk you back to years gone by with just one small sip of homemade fizzy pop. Available in a variety of flavours you’ll be spoilt for choice. Whether you’re inviting some friends round, holding a swinging sixties party or just trying to recreate a sliver of the good old days, a cool and refreshing drink from your very own SodaStream maker will just add that certain je ne sais quoi to your evening.
With today’s economical climate, everyone is looking to save a few pennies where possible. The SodaStream has the potential to help. The initial cost of the machine will be heavily outweighed by the long lasting durability of the product. The SodaStream machines that are in our collection are estimated to last for around 10 years, making them a worthwhile investment in our eyes. The average bottle of syrup will also create around 10 glasses of fizzy pop making the purchasing of the syrup flavour a more economical option than continuously buying cans and bottles of carbonated drinks. In fact, after you have purchased the SodaStream machine the only cost will be of the flavoured syrup top up since the water required for the machine can simply be acquired from your average kitchen tap.
It is often said that homemade food is better than readymade or pre-prepared options and this seems to also be true of fizzy drinks. It doesn’t matter what time of day or night it is, what you’re wearing or how you’re feeling, by having the flavoured syrup stored at home you will never again have to worry about running out to the shops in the rain for your next fizzy pop fix. Furthermore you will no longer have to drag heavy bottles of pop back from the shops on the bus or desperately try and find somewhere to store all the large drink containers, the SodaStream syrup bottle will simply sit in your normal grocery cupboard without being too domineering. Another major benefit to having a SodaStream machine at home is the variety and range of flavoured syrups that are available. This means that you could have a different flavour for every day of the week if you so desired.
Here at Dunelm Mill all of our SodaStream machines are accompanied by individual specifically designed care instructions that should be carefully followed to ensure that your SodaStream lasts for years to come.
